June 2nd

Megan started therapy this morning. They didn't waste any time. She had PT, OT, and Speech. My dad was with her when she was finished for the day and said she slept from about 12:30-3. Needless to say the therapy tired her out! Today was mostly an evaluation day during therapy. They are trying to figure out where she stands and what needs to be worked on first. The PT, OT, and SLP, along with the neurology doctors and residents will meet tomorrow to put together a plan for Megan's stay at Spaulding. They will figure out what treatment she'll need, and a timetable. We will know more details about that in the coming days.

As I said yesterday, the facility is just beautiful. They are working with Megan so she can get around in a wheel chair with her left arm and leg while they are starting to work on walking in therapy. This way she can roll around the floor she's on and even go outside where they have a great sitting area. It'll be great to get her out of her room and out of bed. Although Megan has really enjoyed watching her Law and Order SVU marathons! It is great to see Megan laughing and participating in the conversations and recalling memories from college. Some of you have been wondering if she remembers things, and we believe she does. She comments on the stories with short phrases, or yes and no answers. She is quick to tell you if she doesn't like what is on TV, or if she wants her bed lower so she can take a nap! We still get surprised when a whole sentence comes out, but as the days go on she can produce more full sentences.

After therapy today Megan told us that her right arm was hurting. We were surprised because up until today she has had minimal feeling in that arm. We asked the nurse, and she said that it is because the nerves in her arm are starting to wake up and will maybe begin working again. We can hope!! We will have more details tomorrow about her therapy. Until then, stay MeganSTRONG!
