On
Saturday, May 25th Megan suffered a stroke. She was down the cape with some
friends when they found her. We don't know exactly when she had the stroke, or
the cause. She was brought to Cape Cod Hospital. Later on in the day they
figured out that she had suffered a stroke and made plans to move her to
Boston. She was transferred to Brigham and Women's hospital in the ICU for
neurology. She has been in ICU since. She had a feeding tube in her nose
because she could not swallow enough to get the necessary nutrition down. They
have taken that out this morning, which is a lot more comfortable for Megan.
She cannot move her right arm, but can move both her legs and left arm. She
needs physical therapy to get that right side moving and working better. She
cannot speak. Each day we are hearing more and more of her voice. She is
beginning to say more words, but the understanding isn't quite there. That will
come with time no doubt. We are beginning to see that Megan attitude showing
through with her facial expressions and few words! She still giving my Mom the
look when she gets annoyed! We still have our Megan. She has PT, OT, and Speech
Therapy everyday and they are working her hard. Once she gets to rehab she will
have intensive therapy around 3 hours a day. I know Megan and she'll be up for
the challenge! We are seeing improvement daily, but Megan still has a long way
to go. We are confident that she will make a great recovery. Today has
been a good day for Megan so far! She is out of the ICU and onto a regular
floor. She should be out of the hospital and onto rehab at the earliest
tomorrow, but Monday at he latest.
